Chemainus

Wonderful place to stop for a couple of hours or to enjoy for a night or two.
Known internationally as "The Little Town that Did" or "Muraltown", Chemainus is continually adding to its outdoor art gallery.
The historical mural series is based on actual historic photos, so, as you look at the painted faces, you are seeing real people in historic settings.
In August, 2012, the first mural with audio, "The Unknown Minor" was added as #42 in the historical series.
In keeping with the artistic nature of Chemainus, a new series was begun in 2009 celebrating the work of Emily Carr. There are two murals completed in this series. Chemainus also boasts a number of sculptures.

Chemainus's other big attraction is the Chemainus Theatre Festival, one of the largest professional theatre companies in western North America. To see what's playing when you will be here, visit our Website. You will also have the option of enjoying their gourmet food in the Playbill Dining Room.

The downtown core has many interesting specialty stores and wonderfully diverse eateries, all with excellent food - and be sure you don't miss Old Town.
In the summer you can find Music in the Park on Tuesday evenings, ArtBeat on Friday evenings plus a variety of other monthly or biweekly music events around town.
Wednesdays, June through September, there is a farmers and crafters market open 10-4.
Of course, while many come to Chemainus for the murals, there is a lot more to do once you are there. For Divers, there is the only purposefully sunken 737 that forms an artificial reef for a unique diving experience.

The area has hiking trails, beaches, marinas, parks and Mt. Brenton Golf Course with walking distance of downtown.
